He Has The Only Thing We Need
Jesus explicitly said that He came for the sick, not the healthy. He came for the broken, not the already-whole.
Yet we often feel this pressure that we must clean up our own mess before we can come to God. For we have heard He is holy. We know He is just and right and true. And we are mere humans — prone to jealousy or anger, quick to speak and slow to listen, pasts full of mistakes and no promise of perfection for today.
And so we hide. Or we meander around, trying not to make eye contact because maybe then, we won’t feel the shame we know we deserve. Or we rush past the whole thing, uncomfortable. Or we work our fingers to the bone trying to get enough right to balance the scales or look clean enough for God.
All the while, He is beckoning us, knowing that He has the only thing we need. He is the only One we need. And we don’t have to do anything to earn it, but we must not look away.
Take a chance and look. Take a chance and turn your eyes upon the One who sacrificed His life for your peace, for your eternity. Trust that He is for you, and keep your focus on what is true this season. And as you look, He will do the healing, the cleaning up, the mending, the restoring. That part is never on you and never has been. Simply look, and trust, and watch what He does.
