January 2025 Impact Update

Hey Northwood Family,

What an exciting quarter. From Trunk-or-Treat to Christmas Eve, it was full of celebration and fun. In the middle of all that, we recognized the new (and reaffirmed the current) Elders and Deacons. As a church that values God’s Word, it is important that we operate under a Biblical leadership framework. We are so blessed to have a group of amazing men and women who meet the qualifications laid out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 and serve our church so well.

Staff Transitions Spotlight

Jeffrey Oswalt poses for his staff photo in front of a black background.

After 30+ years of service to Northwood Church, our beloved Production Director, Avonne Beaver, has retired. While her dedication to excellence and hospitality will be greatly missed, she left us with the gift of a well-trained, and competent successor!

Jeffrey Oswalt has a long history at Northwood in his own right. After volunteering in Youth for many years, He joined the Facilities Team in 2008. As Northwood moved into our new facilities at Carnes Crossroads, Jeffrey became an invaluable resource to the Production Team. With a background specializing in lighting and set design, Jeffrey has proven to be an excellent team leader across all production disciplines. We are thrilled to have him stepping up to lead this team.

Your Generosity

We are pleased to share that our financial health remains strong, thanks to the faithful giving of our members. This quarter, we supported several new projects and extended our outreach efforts further than ever before.

2024 Giving was up 4% over 2023

Thank you for being a generous church!

The Team Holiday Party

In November, we hosted our Team Holiday Party at the South Carolina Aquarium, creating a memorable evening for our volunteers and their families. The event was a heartfelt way to show appreciation for all the time and energy our volunteers pour into the church. Guests enjoyed an array of desserts and steaming cups of hot cocoa, perfect for the festive atmosphere. The kids had a blast exploring the touch tanks, with the stingray touch tank being the clear favorite among the little ones. It was a beautiful evening of fellowship, fun, and gratitude.

Reach our City

In November, we organized “Reach Our City,” a series of community outreach initiatives. Over 60 volunteers came together to serve in various ways, including preparing meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House, providing lawn care, hosting a children’s ministry in local neighborhoods, blessing hospital staff, visiting residents at a senior care facility, completing a work day at the Remnant House, engaging with local pickleball players, and coordinating a blood drive. Each event was filled with meaningful moments, and we were deeply blessed—perhaps even more so than those we set out to serve.

In November, Northwood also sent a team of nine to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, on a mission trip.

Partnering with Victorious Christian Harvesters, the team worked to build a new church building and parsonage for a young pastor and his family. Along with the construction efforts, they ministered at another local church during the Sunday morning service, sharing testimonies and praying with many wonderful church members. The construction projects were a great success—and the tacos weren’t bad either!
